These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Bytte website, platform, datasets, and services ("Services"). By accessing or using Bytte, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms.
If you do not agree, do not use Bytte.
1. About Bytte
Bytte ("Bytte," "we," "us," "our") is a data infrastructure and AI training data company that collects, curates, annotates, and licenses African language speech and text datasets for use in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and analytics systems.
Bytte operates from Abuja, Nigeria and serves clients worldwide.
2. Who These Terms Apply To
These Terms apply to:
- Website visitors
- Data contributors
- Clients and dataset buyers
- Researchers and partners
- Any person or entity using Bytte's Services
3. Services Provided
Bytte provides:
- AI training datasets (speech, text, annotations, metadata)
- Data cleaning, labeling, and quality control services
- Dataset licensing (exclusive, semi-exclusive, and non-exclusive)
- Data documentation, benchmarking, and audit trails
Bytte does not provide AI models or consumer-facing AI products.
4. Contributor Terms (People Who Provide Data)
If you contribute voice, text, or other data to Bytte:
4.1 Consent
You confirm that:
- You are at least 18 years old
- You are providing data voluntarily
- You understand your data will be used to train AI systems
4.2 IP Ownership & Work-for-Hire
You agree that:
- All data you submit is either your original work or you have the right to submit it
- All submitted data becomes Bytte's exclusive intellectual property
- Data is provided under work-for-hire or full IP assignment
- Bytte may modify, license, sell, and distribute the data worldwide
- You do not retain ownership, royalties, or usage rights over submitted data.
4.3 Payments
If you are compensated:
- Payments are handled via third-party providers
- Bytte is not responsible for tax reporting or withholding unless required by law
5. Client & Buyer Terms
If you purchase or license datasets from Bytte:
5.1 License, Not Ownership
You receive a license, not ownership, to use the data according to the agreement you sign with Bytte.
All datasets remain the intellectual property of Bytte.
5.2 License Types
Licenses may be:
- Exclusive
- Semi-exclusive
- Non-exclusive
Use, redistribution, sublicensing, or resale is prohibited unless explicitly permitted in writing.
5.3 No Reverse Engineering
You may not:
- Attempt to extract contributor identities
- Reconstruct raw personal data
- Use the data to violate privacy or surveillance laws
6. Data Ethics & Use Restrictions
You agree not to use Bytte data to:
- Violate human rights
- Perform illegal surveillance
- Create deceptive, harmful, or exploitative systems
- Identify or target individual contributors
Bytte reserves the right to revoke licenses for misuse.
7. Data Protection & Compliance
Bytte operates under:
- Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA)
- EU GDPR
- Global best practices for ethical AI data governance
Bytte follows:
- Consent-based data collection
- Work-for-hire IP ownership
- Dataset provenance & audit trails
- AI risk management principles (OECD, NIST-aligned)
8. Security
Bytte uses:
- Encrypted storage
- Access controls
- Audit logs
- Secure cloud infrastructure
However, no system is 100% secure. You use Bytte at your own risk.
9. Disclaimers
Bytte provides datasets "as-is".
We do not guarantee:
- That models trained on our data will achieve specific accuracy
- That datasets will fit a specific commercial purpose
AI performance depends on how clients use the data.
10. Limitation of Liability
Bytte is not liable for:
- Business losses
- Model failures
- Revenue loss
- Indirect or consequential damages
Maximum liability is limited to the amount paid to Bytte in the last 12 months.
11. Termination
Bytte may suspend or terminate access if:
- You violate these Terms
- You misuse data
- You breach licensing agreements
- Required by law
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by:
- Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
- NDPA and applicable international data protection laws
Disputes shall be resolved in Nigerian courts unless otherwise agreed.
13. Changes
Bytte may update these Terms. Continued use means you accept the changes.
